OUR NEW BARN
FROM TRAGEDY COMES HOPE
The Farm’s 112-year-old barn was accidentally burned to the ground in October 2016 by two children. The loss felt by the entire community. But since then, young people and many others have been imagining the barn as year-round, fully accessible space hosting musical and dramatic performances, and special events — and many are helping to get the rebuilding started. In August 2018, 64 volunteer timber framers from all over North American were welcomed by over 1,000 local residents for a history-making, joyous barn-raising event.
The Town of Georgina’s contribution of the insurance monies from the old barn got the rebuilding “pool” started. Contributions have continued from the Ontario Trillium Fund, Legacy Funding from the government of Canada and hundreds of donors, including Longo’s as the barn’s naming sponsor. The new barn will cost $2.4 million and we have approximately $600,000 yet to go. If that can be raised this year, the new barn can open as a very special public space for the arts and more in summer 2023.

An experienced group of arts presenters, administrators, cultural entrepreneurs and educators have been helping define how the new ClearWater Farm barn can become a destination for aspiring artists, emerging artists, professional performers and creators – immersing everyone in a place where art and the environment go hand in hand. And, becoming self-sustaining at the same time.
